The filling quantity (= stuffing density) is essential for the sound insulation and the service life of the insulation material.
Too soft stuffed: the exhaust sounds quiet at first, after a short time the insulating material is pushed open, an empty space is formed, the muffler becomes loud again, the insulating material wears out excessively fast.
Too hard stuffed: long service life of the insulating material, but no optimal sound insulation. The general service life of the material varies from machine to machine and driver to driver.
The dismantled silencer should be thoroughly cleaned before filling with new wool. The main focus should be on the perforated pipe. The perforation of the pipe can sometimes become clogged under unfavourable circumstances and would result in a still loud silencer despite filling with new insulation wool. Therefore simply pierce the perforation with a slim screwdriver.
