Blue Vespa shell speedometer 120 km/h for VBA, VBB, GL, GT, GTR, Sprint

The speedometers, also known as shell speedometers due to their external shape, were installed in many old Vespas from the 1960s onwards. They are available in various versions, i.e. with different speed scales (100 km/h - 110 km/h - 120 km/h) and different dial designs (red - blue - black and with or without Piaggio logo).

In principle, the speedometers can be interchanged, i.e. a 120 km/h speedometer can also be inserted into a handlebar that was originally only intended for a 100 km/h model. However, there are differences in the mounting technology. Round handlebar models have a different bracket than trapezoidal handlebars. However, the holders can usually be replaced.

NOTE: The thread of the union nut for the upper mounting has an M10x1.00mm thread. This means that unfortunately none of the usual (Italian) Vespa speedometer cables will fit this speedometer.

TIP: Piaggio no longer manufactures speedometers but buys them in India. The quality of an expensive, supposedly original Piaggio speedometer is therefore identical to a much cheaper repro speedometer. Only the Piaggio logo is missing on the replicas...
