Steering Head Bearing Set - MB Developments, Tapered Roller Bearing Lower Set - Lambretta LI, LI S, SX, TV, DL, GP.
Complete set to upgrade the lower steering head bearing.
This set is compatible with all models in the LI family. See below for specific details regarding Series 1 and 2 as well as Spanish models.
Before installation, clean the inside of the frame tube and remove any dirt, rust, or paint residue.
The tapered roller bearing is larger and more robust than the standard parts. Play in the steering is minimized, and steering feels smoother.
Package contents:
1) Lower bearing shell in the frame
2) Lower tapered roller bearing
Top tip: Make sure the tapered roller bearing fits properly on the fork. Some forks have a large chamfer; this must be filed down so the bearing seats correctly. Forks can also vary in diameter. Thoroughly clean the bearing seat and, ideally, sand it down with emery cloth. The bearing should fit into the seat with a light tap. If it sits loosely, secure it with threadlocker such as Loctite.
Top Tip 2: The Spanish Series 2 models and the winter models did not use a dust cover—as we know it from the Series 3. However, one can be installed, and it provides good protection for the bearing.
Top Tip 3: The early Series 1/2 frames are not milled as deep as those of the Series 3. If you plan to install the MB headset shell here, it must be shortened accordingly—for example, using an angle grinder.
