This lever set is visually and ergonomically based on the original Vespa levers that were fitted to many Smallframe models from the end of the 1970s. The brake and clutch levers have rounded ball ends and a slightly cranked shape - making them easier to hold and meeting the stricter safety requirements of the time.
Set: Brake & clutch levers Classic smallframe look Ball ends according to safety standard Aluminum, ergonomically shaped For round smallframe steering heads
The levers are designed to fit the classic Vespa Smallframe from approx. 1976, i.e. including the V50 Special/50 S/50 R of the late model years, 90/100/100 Sport, Primavera 125 and 125 Primavera ET3. Many Motovespa Smallframe with round handlebars (50/75/125 cc) also use this lever geometry.
Important: The levers are not suitable for PK models (PK S, PK XL, PK XL2, ETS, HP etc.).
Compared to the early, straight levers with a pointed end, these versions are significantly more ergonomic: the slightly curved shape reduces the required hand force and allows finer control - particularly pleasant on longer journeys or with smaller hands. The ball ends also minimize the risk of injury in the event of a fall.
The levers are bolted to the existing mounting points and replace the old levers 1:1. After installation, the play in the clutch and brake cable should be checked and adjusted if necessary to ensure that the levers fit properly and can be operated smoothly.
On early smallframes before 1976, the levers can be used as an optional upgrade - provided the appropriate fitting with corresponding mount is installed. This provides noticeably more comfort and contemporary lever geometry without changing the classic look of the round steering head.
Vehicles that have already been delivered from the factory with levers with ball ends should continue to be operated with this design. The set offered here is designed as an original replacement.
Classic smallframes that originally still had pointed, straight levers are generally grandfathered - these may continue to be used as long as the condition of the vehicle complies with the applicable regulations. This does not result in a general obligation to convert to ball levers.
However, if you want to upgrade your Smallframe technically and ergonomically, you can use the ball levers as a safety and comfort retrofit.
For setups with very tight sports clutches, the use of PX levers on the Smallframe can be interesting. These have a larger grip width and provide slightly more release travel. Visually, they are very similar to the levers offered here, but offer more lever travel - ideal for powerful engines where every millimeter of clutch travel counts.
