The Polini clutch cover FOR RACE is an interesting option for sporty Vespa Largeframe engines. It features integrated labyrinth venting, an adjustable clutch arm and a modified outer contour for more tire clearance.
Important note on compatibility: Unlike the BGM PRO CNC clutch cover, which was specially developed for the trouble-free installation of oversize sports clutches, the Polini cover is not a universal plug-and-play solution for COSA-based clutches. When using clutches such as the BGM PRO Superstrong, not only does the inner radius of the cover need to be checked, but the inner release lever may also need to be mechanically adjusted to ensure full freedom of movement.
The labyrinth is used to mechanically calm the oil that is thrown around inside the cover before it reaches the vent. This can increase the reserve, especially at high engine speeds. Nevertheless, the system is not a panacea against oil leaks.
Our practical experience shows: Normal touring setups run completely dry even with conventional bleeding and approx. 500 ml of transmission oil. If oil leaks nevertheless, the cause is often a pressurization of the gearbox housing (e.g. due to a defective crankshaft oil seal) and not a problem with the ventilation system itself.
Lay the clutch cable tension-free and check the function and freedom of movement to the tire after installation. If you are using a COSA-based clutch, check carefully that the inner lever is touching the clutch basket before closing the engine.
