The HT Rolling Nut is a special conversion nut for older Piaggio and Gilera 125–180 cm³ 2-stroke engines. It allows for the installation of a variator cover with an externally mounted clutch shaft on an older engine block where the clutch shaft is standardly mounted within the engine case and the transmission cover.
The nut replaces the original clutch shaft nut and establishes the connection to the bearing in the externally mounted engine cover. This allows both the HT CNC variator cover and a compatible original Piaggio or Gilera cover of the later externally mounted design to be used on older engines.

Using an externally mounted variator cover on an older engine
On older Piaggio engines, the clutch shaft is guided through the engine case on the variator side and through the transmission cover on the opposite side. Later engines, however, feature an external bearing arrangement: Here, the clutch shaft is positioned between the transmission cover and an additional bearing in the variator cover.
Without modification, the older clutch shaft lacks the proper connection for this external bearing. The HT Rolling Nut performs exactly this function. It is screwed onto the existing thread of the clutch shaft and forms the connection to the Ø 20 mm bearing in the variator cover.
Function of the HT Rolling Nut
Replaces the original nut on the older clutch shaft
Establishes the connection to the bearing in the externally mounted variator cover
Allows the use of newer engine covers on older engine blocks
Compatible with the HT CNC variator cover
Compatible with matching original Piaggio and Gilera externally mounted covers
No modification to the existing clutch shaft is required

Compatible Vehicles
The HT Rolling Nut fits numerous Piaggio 125–180 cm³ 2-stroke engines from the 1990s and early 2000s. The key factors are the specific engine type, the M12x1.25 thread, and the clutch shaft design.

Important: Check cover compatibility separately
The rolling nut connects the clutch shaft to the outer bearing. However, it does not resolve any installation space-related limitations of the variator cover being used.
For engines with a large 140 mm rear brake, the HT variator cover can generally be used in conjunction with the electric starter.
For engines with a small Ø 110 mm rear brake—such as the SKR, TPH 125, or certain Hexagon models—the use of the electric starter may need to be omitted when using the HT cover, or the area may need to be adjusted.
This limitation concerns the cover’s installation space, not the fit of the rolling nut on the clutch shaft.
Installation
Remove the original clutch shaft nut and replace it with the HT Rolling Nut. Then, install the appropriate variator cover with outer bearing. Before final installation, check the alignment of the clutch shaft, the fit in the cover bearing, and the free play of the entire drive train.
Clean and inspect the threads and clutch shaft before installation
Remove the original clutch shaft nut
Install the HT Rolling Nut to the specified torque
Use the appropriate Ø 20 mm bearing in the variator cover
Check the alignment between the clutch shaft and the cover bearing
Check the variator, clutch, kick starter, and, if applicable, electric starter for free movement

Conclusion
The HT Rolling Nut allows for the installation of an externally mounted variator cover on older Piaggio 125–180 cm³ 2-stroke engines. It replaces the stock clutch shaft nut and connects to the Ø 20 mm bearing in the cover. This allows for the use of both the HT CNC engine cover and compatible original externally mounted covers without having to replace the existing clutch shaft.
FAQ
It allows for the installation of a variator cover with an external bearing on an older engine whose clutch shaft was originally mounted in the engine case and the transmission cover.
No. The HT Rolling Nut is mounted on the existing older clutch shaft and replaces its original mounting nut.
No. It can be used with both the HT CNC variator cover and a compatible original Piaggio or Gilera cover designed for an externally mounted clutch shaft.
No. Only the conversion nut is included. The bearing, variator cover, and other components must be provided separately or ordered.
The nut fits the listed clutch shafts. However, when using the HT variator cover, there may be an installation space restriction at the electric starter on engines with a small Ø 110 mm brake. The Rolling Nut itself does not eliminate this restriction.
The HT Rolling Nut has an M12x1.25 thread and is designed for a 20-mm outer bearing.
