The POLINI cylinder head has been developed as a replacement and tuning-friendly head for the original 200 cc Piaggio cylinder. It fits the PX200, Rally200 and the corresponding Motovespa models without machining and its geometry provides a very good basis for O-tuning - i.e. reworking the original cylinder with an optimized squish edge and improved combustion.
The POLINI head is designed as a standard head for the original Piaggio 200 cc grey cast iron cylinder. Bore and sealing surface correspond to the standard (Ø 66.5 mm), but the combustion chamber has a modern design:
This makes the head ideal if the original 200cc cylinder is to be reworked but deliberately reused - for example for touring engines with improved power and temperature reserves.
POLINI relies on a die-cast aluminum alloy with high thermal conductivity. The cooling fins have been redesigned and enlarged compared to the original Piaggio design in order to dissipate the heat generated more efficiently to the airstream. This stabilizes the operating temperature, especially during longer full throttle stages, higher compression or modern exhaust systems.
Tip: A thin layer of heat-resistant grease or oil on the sealing surface between the cylinder and head can - as recommended by Piaggio - improve the tightening behavior and help the head to set evenly. After the first few hours of operation, check the head bolts crosswise according to the torque specification.

Can I ride the POLINI head on a completely standard engine?
→ Yes. The head is designed for the original 200 cc cylinder and can be fitted without further processing.
However, it is still advisable to check the crushing edge.
What are the benefits of the head when O-tuning my original cylinder?
→ The modern combustion chamber shape and the defined crushing zone allow the crushing edge to be adjusted very precisely. In conjunction with a cleanly reworked standard cylinder (channels deburred, outlet adjusted, compression moderately increased), better combustion, cleaner throttle response and more stable temperatures are possible.
Is it absolutely necessary to machine the cylinder?
→ No. The head also works with an untouched original cylinder. However, if you are planning an O-tuning anyway, you can make even better use of the potential of the POLINI head
. Which spark plug should I use?
→ Long-threaded spark plugs with a heat value in the range of the common 200 setups are intended, e.g. NGK B8ES/B9ES depending on the application profile.
Does the head also fit tuning cylinders with 210/221 cc?
→ No. The head offered here is built for the original Piaggio 200 cc cylinder with Ø 66.5 mm bore. For POLINI or other aluminium cylinders with a larger bore, separate, matched cylinder heads are used.
