Pinasco 260cc Master tuning kit with rotary valve for Vespa Largeframe

The Pinasco 260cc engine kit fits all Vespa Largeframe models such as Vespa PX, T5, Sprint, TS, Rally, Super, GT, GTR, VNA, VNB, VBA, VBB. It is also suitable for Spanish Motovespa models like CL, DN, DS, TX, PX, GS, Sprint, GT160 as well as LML / Stella licensed versions. This means the displacement of a 125cc scooter can be doubled without being noticeably different on the outside. Pinasco states the output is over 30 hp – depending heavily on components like exhaust and carburettor. One of the main strengths of the Pinasco 260cc engine is its smooth operation and strong torque.

The engine cases are available in two versions:

MASTER = ROTARY VALVE INLET (AS USED BY PIAGGIO)
SLAVE = REED VALVE CONTROLLED

  • Bore: Ø73mm

  • Stroke: 62 mm

  • Displacement: 260cc

CRANKSHAFT
The engine casing is based on the Vespa T5 design. It therefore uses a wider and more stable crankshaft. The included Pinasco crankshaft has a clutch-side spline – only the matching Pinasco clutch (also included) is compatible.

BEARINGS

The crankshaft bearing on the flywheel side is a large roller bearing (NU205 25x52x15mm).

OIL SEAL

The cases are designed for a metal oil seal (clutch side). Always use the version with the brown sealing lip for 200cc engines.

LUBRICATION

Two lubrication holes for the flywheel bearing.

ALIGNMENT

Two additional alignment sleeves = crankshafts with extended stroke can be used without relying on the centring collar of the flywheel half. Sleeve dimensions: AØ=9.95mm, IØ=8.40mm, h=13.80mm

RUBBER MOUNTS

The bores for the large silent blocks measure Ø44 mm (Piaggio originals Ø43 mm). The included silent blocks are stiffer and provide better support of the engine in the frame. Piaggio silent blocks also fit. Solutions with metal sleeves or no pre-tension generally do not fit unless specifically made for Piaggio cases (Jockey, PLC).

FEATURES OF ROTARY VALVE VERSION

The rotary valve inlet is considerably wider than on a PX200, allowing the use of larger carburettors. However, you can still use a standard-type SI carburettor. Pinasco offers a modified version of the SI carb with a 28mm diameter. A big advantage of the rotary version is the quiet intake noise. Separate lubrication like on Lusso models is not supported (no provision for oil pump drive). Existing carb boxes from oil-pump models can be reused but require slight modification (remove centring sleeve for oil pump).

FEATURES OF REED VALVE VERSION
The reed valve version has a very large intake area. Ideal for those aiming for maximum power using large carburettors and tuned exhausts.

  • Centre-positioned, full-surface reed valve inlet

  • Includes reed valve manifold, reed valve in RD350 format (bolt pattern 58x48mm)

  • Rotatable intake rubber (360°), carburettor connection: Ø34mm

  • Rubber fits Keihin PWK28, Mikuni TMX27/30, Dell'Orto PHBH28/30, VHS24–30

  • No oil pump drive shaft cast-in

  • No drilling for oil pump drive

INSTALLATION NOTE

The flywheel-side crankshaft bearing (NU205) does not sit flush in the case – it protrudes approx. 1mm towards the crankshaft.

SCOPE OF DELIVERY

ROTARY VALVE
  • Engine casing
  • Cylinder incl. head and piston
  • Crankshaft incl. conrod bearing
  • Clutch (complete, without clutch gear)
  • All studs
  • Silent blocks + washers
  • Gaskets for casing
  • Bushing for secondary shaft

REED VALVE
  • as above, additionally includes:
  • Reed valve manifold incl. valve, rubber, gasket, and small parts

NOTE: Screws for mounting the manifold to the engine casing not included (see: accessories).

REQUIRED FOR COMPLETION

You can reuse internal parts from all 125–200cc engines from model year 1982 onwards. Parts from 1984 onwards are preferred due to better transmission strength. Cosa engines are ideal donors – they use the same internals as PX models from 1992 despite having different casings (note: primary gear ratio is shorter: 21/68 vs. 23/65). These casings are NOT designed for electric starters. A matching cylinder shroud is available from BSK (item no. 3333801).

Please apply high-strength threadlocker when inserting all studs. The cylinder studs are not stepped as seen on Piaggio originals – the supplied Pinasco studs must be bonded in. We recommend recutting all threads and cleaning them with compressed air.

  • IGNITION: Pinasco Flytech type T5 (PX components do not fit due to large transfer ports)

  • CYLINDER SHROUD: Type T5 (needs modification)

  • FLYWHEEL COVER: Type T5

  • GEARBOX: Type PX Lusso/T5/Cosa/LML. PX125–200 gearboxes from 1984 onwards can be used.

  • CLUTCH COG: Type Cosa2 (recommendation: BGM PRO clutch gear)

  • CLUTCH COVER: Type PX200

  • PRIMARY DRIVE: Type PX (recommendation: BGM PRO straight-cut primary)

  • THRUST WASHER FOR CLUTCH: BGM6031P
