Floatneedle BGM PRO FKM® for carburetor Dell'Orto
The float needle regulates the flow of fuel into the carburetor. If the float needle is defective, the carburetor overflows and the fuel drips onto the ground and/or into the engine. This often results in a poorly starting and smoking engine. When the carburetor is overhauled, it is therefore advisable to replace the float needle at the same time. Unfortunately, it is not included in most carburetor sealing kits, so it should always be purchased separately.
SPRINGED OR UNSUSPENSIONED?
A spring-loaded float needle is the modern successor to the unsprung version and can replace it 1:1. The spring serves to protect the rubber tip from too much pressure and buffers excessive shocks to the float, e.g. on bumps, like a shock absorber. On many supposedly non-adjustable engines, the mere installation of a spring-loaded float needle helps to tune them well. The additional buffer makes the float position much more stable, regardless of the engine's own vibrations.
TRIANGULAR OR SQUARE?
Dell'orto uses two different types of float needle as a rough distinction: triangular and square. The square type is then available in two different sizes: 4.5 mm and 5.2 mm
Triangular: Dell'Orto SHB, PHVA, PHBN, PHBG, FHBB, UB, MA18, MB A 20-24
Square 4.5 mm: Dell'Orto SI20, SI24/24E, SI26/26, SH, PHBH, PHBL, VHB, MA BS5/BS7, MB B20-24
Square 5.2 mm: Dell'Orto SI24/24H, SI26/26H, VHSA, VHSB
TIP: For a perfect result, the float needle seat in the carburetor should be cleaned if necessary. To do this, push a cotton bud into the hole in the float needle and turn it back and forth with gentle pressure. Make sure that no residue remains. Brake cleaner is also ideal for cleaning the entire carburetor.
KNOWLEDGE: The most common reason for a defective float needle is wear/aging of the sealing rubber tip. For this reason, the BGM PRO float needles are made of durable FKM®.
