PIAGGIO fuel sender for Vespa PX models built in 1984 or later with a sheet metal cap, Ø48 mm – resistance range 50–270 ohms.
Fuel level sensor currently offered by PIAGGIO for Vespa PX models from model year 1984 onward, featuring a fuel gauge and a metal cap. The sensor operates in the range of 50 to 270 ohms and can be used as a replacement for a defective original fuel level sensor.
This allows the convenient fuel gauge to be restored to working order. The sensor can also be used, with the appropriate modifications, in conjunction with compatible PX/LML instruments or a suitable separate display.
PIAGGIO PX from 1984 onward 50–270 ohms Metal cap Install with care
Important to know: Even the fuel level sensor currently offered by PIAGGIO no longer meets the same manufacturing quality standards as the earlier original version. PIAGGIO now also sources this model as a purchased component from India.
Based on the current shipment, the PIAGGIO sender is technically and qualitatively equivalent to the significantly less expensive RMS version. A higher price does not, therefore, indicate correspondingly better build quality in this case.
Therefore, the same applies to the PIAGGIO sender: install it gently and do not apply unnecessary force to the sender, float arm, connection area, or cap. Before final installation, carefully check the mechanism to ensure it moves freely.
Based on current supply status, there is no significant quality advantage of the PIAGGIO version over the RMS fuel level sensor for this model. Both versions are identical in design, function, and build quality.
If you simply need a functional replacement for the original PX fuel sender, you can opt for the more affordable RMS version. The additional cost of the PIAGGIO version does not result in better mechanical quality for the currently available model.
The float follows the fuel level in the tank and changes the electrical resistance via the sender. The connected instrument evaluates this resistance and displays the approximate fuel level based on it.
The resistance range for this model is 50–270 ohms.
Especially in older PX Lusso models, the fuel gauge often no longer functions reliably, even though the instrument and wiring are still in good condition. A worn-out or defective fuel level sensor is a possible cause.
This PIAGGIO sensor allows you to replace the corresponding sensor with a metal cover without having to replace the entire tank.
The fuel level sensor is supplied without a multi-pin connector for connection to the vehicle’s wiring harness. The existing connector from the old fuel level sensor must therefore be reused.
The individual contacts in the connector are secured by small metal locking tabs. Carefully push back or bend back these tabs before pulling out the contacts, and ensure they snap back into place correctly when inserting them into the old connector.
In addition to the standard or compatible PX and LML instruments, the resistance signal can generally also be used for custom-built fuel gauges, provided their electronics are calibrated to the sensor’s resistance range.

The PIAGGIO fuel level sensor (50–270 ohms) with a Ø48 mm sheet metal cover serves its purpose as a replacement for a defective PX fuel level sensor, but does not match the manufacturing quality of earlier original PIAGGIO sensors.
Since the currently available PIAGGIO model corresponds technically and qualitatively to the less expensive RMS version, the higher price offers no practical quality advantage in our view. Anyone installing the sender should handle the float arm, mechanism, and connection area with particular care, regardless of the brand name.
