. The ignition assemblies offered here were manufactured by Piaggio in the late 1970s but were then preserved for several decades, as if in a time capsule. The ignition base plates are therefore like new and still feature the high quality standards Piaggio was once known for.
NEW CABLES
Only the insulation of the wiring has deteriorated over the decades. We recommend replacing it with a new wiring harness (soldering required). With minimal effort, you’ll then have an affordable yet very high-quality alternator/ignition system for a perfect and true-to-original restoration.
We offer two different wiring harnesses for restoration (see Accessories):
The ignition base plate with integrated alternator offered here features the following wire colors:
2x yellow (DC charging circuit for battery)
1x black (ground)
1x green (primary excitation current for ignition)
1x purple (AC lighting current, unregulated)
Regulator type: 4-pin G|G|B+|C (Alternatively usable: 5-pin G|G|B+|C|Ground)
In this version, the light output is unregulated (therefore, all light sources must be installed and set to the correct value).
The charging current for the battery, however, is regulated. Such vehicles can be identified by the dual yellow cables and the voltage regulator with only 4 terminals.
As mentioned above, this alternator/ignition system can be easily converted to match the German contact ignition models using cable branch VSP003. In this case, the light output is also regulated. The wire colors then match exactly those of the vehicle’s wiring harness. The 5-pin regulator (Type A|A) used in the German models can then continue to be used.
