Advantages at a glance

Two curves in one ignition: Road (static) and Sport (adjustable) switchable.
High electrical output: 110 W even at low speeds for bright light.
One-piece pole wheel: precise balancing and exact concentricity.
Coordinated flywheel mass: engine responds cleanly to the throttle, driving feel suitable for everyday use.
For tuned engines and Note 1 repair: touring and tuning, without contact and condenser.

Ignition - SIP VAPE Touring - 12V AC - Vespa Smallframe Ø19mm cone

The SIP PERFORMANCE by VAPE Touring is a 12V AC ignition for classic smallframe engines with a small cone. It combines two ignition curves in one control unit: a static curve (Road) and a variable curve (Sport). This allows you to switch between constant ignition timing and dynamic adjustment depending on the engine characteristics.

Road or Sport: how to switch

Static (Road): Connect the blue cable to ground. In this setting, the ignition timing remains constant across all engine speeds.
Flash off: If the static setting is active, flash the ignition to 18° from TDC so that both curves match the diagram values.
Variable (Sport): Disconnect blue cable from ground. The adjustment curve is active and the curve is optimized compared to the sport version: constant at 14.3° from 6500 rpm.

Installation tip

A flash lamp is useful for setting the ignition correctly. Please connect according to the wiring diagram.

Note: When changing from contact ignition to VAPE, a good earth point and a clean wiring harness are important.

Complete ignition or upgrade kit?

Complete ignition: useful if you do not yet have a SIP Performance by VAPE.
Upgrade kit: contains the parts to convert an existing Road or Sport ignition to Touring.
Difference to Road/Sport: separate ignition coil (item no. 51008700) and control unit (item no. 51008630) instead of one-piece electronics center.
Pole wheel: Keyway offset by 50° (pole wheel item no. 51002916), so that the adjustment range is possible.

Suitable for

Note: This variant is designed for Smallframe engines with a small cone Ø19 mm (typically M10 pole wheel nut).

FAQ

If you want to switch between static ignition timing and adjustable curve. Touring combines Road and Sport characteristic curves in one system.
For a clean basic setting, yes: with the static mode active (blue cable to ground), flash to 18° from TDC.
Road is interesting for setups that require a constant ignition timing over a wide range. Sport is a good basis for many tuned engines because the ignition adjusts depending on the engine speed and remains stable at 14.3° from 6500 rpm.
