Genuine Piaggio key blank with integrated transponder for Vespa vehicles with an electronic immobilizer and Giobert locking system. The key is intended as a replacement or spare key and is listed under Piaggio original part number 1B004718.
The key blank combines a mechanical key blade with an electronic transponder for identification by the immobilizer. Before it can be used on the vehicle, the key blade must be cut to match the existing lock and the transponder must be programmed to the vehicle's electronic immobilizer.
The key has a black, approximately semicircular plastic head with rounded edges. The Vespa logo is embossed into the surface on both sides. The slightly textured surface has a matt finish.
A round hole for attachment to a key ring is located in the upper section of the key head. An additional recess along the upper edge forms part of the asymmetric shape of the grip.
The silver-coloured key blade has a longitudinal profile with a pronounced central guide groove. Side contours and a bevelled tip define the basic mechanical profile. An embossed marking is visible on the key blade.
The version shown has a key blade that has not yet been cut to a specific lock. The electronic transponder is located inside the plastic head and is not visible from the outside.
The current Piaggio original part number is 1B004718. It supersedes the previously used part numbers 298934 and 573426.
The key is intended for vehicles equipped with the corresponding Giobert locking system. As Piaggio used different locking systems depending on model, year and version, the key profile must be compared with the existing original key before ordering.
The key is supplied as a blank and is not ready for immediate use. Before programming, the key blade must be mechanically cut to match the existing vehicle key.
New keys with a transponder must be programmed to the vehicle's electronic immobilizer before first use. On appropriately equipped Piaggio and Vespa immobilizer systems, the brown master key is required for this procedure.
Important: The individual programming steps must be carried out quickly one after another. No more than 10 seconds may elapse between changing keys.
After completing the programming procedure, check the behaviour of the immobilizer indicator light. Then insert the new key and attempt to start the engine. If the engine starts normally, the key has been programmed successfully.
Note: The brown master key is essential for this programming procedure. Existing operating keys must be programmed again during the same programming sequence if they are to remain usable.
The procedure described applies to appropriately equipped Piaggio and Vespa immobilizer systems using a brown master key. Programming may differ on other generations of immobilizer systems.
