Genuine Piaggio centrifugal clutch with three clutch shoes for Vespa GT, GTS, GTS Super and GTV as well as numerous other scooters with 250–300 cc engines. The clutch is part of the automatic CVT transmission and provides the mechanical connection between the driven pulley and the clutch bell.
The complete clutch assembly corresponds to the standard Piaggio design and is intended to replace a worn or damaged original clutch. The three clutch shoes operate independently and are held in their initial position by return springs.
The product images show a pre-assembled centrifugal clutch with three solid clutch shoes. Wide, dark grey friction linings are fitted to their outer surfaces. The clutch shoes are arranged on a common carrier and pivot-mounted at three points.
The rear of the clutch features a characteristic triangular metal carrier plate. The three corners contain the pivot points of the clutch shoes, secured with retaining rings. Parts of the clutch mechanism and the return springs are visible through the central opening.
On the opposite side is a round metal plate with several radially arranged reinforcing ribs. The central mount has a flattened inner profile. The visible metal surfaces predominantly have a silver-coloured finish.
At low engine speeds, the clutch springs hold the three clutch shoes in their retracted position. In this state, there is no frictional engagement between the friction linings and the clutch bell.
As engine speed increases, centrifugal force acts on the clutch shoes. They move outwards and their friction linings make contact with the inside of the clutch bell. This transfers the engine torque to the downstream drivetrain.
When the engine speed drops below the engagement range again, the return springs pull the clutch shoes back and interrupt power transmission.
The current Piaggio original part number is CM3117015. It replaces various earlier part numbers, including 1A016687, 8722515, AP8176394, CM274703 and CM3113015.
Additional assigned original part numbers include CM3117015 as well as the Aprilia references 8176394 and AP8176394. As Piaggio used different clutch versions within individual model ranges, compatibility should be checked using the original part number and the specific vehicle version.
When replacing the clutch, the clutch bell, driven pulley and associated transmission components should be checked for wear and damage. In particular, the inner friction surface of the clutch bell must be in proper condition.
The friction linings and the contact surface of the clutch bell must not come into contact with oil or grease. Suitable tools must be used for removing and installing the clutch, and the manufacturer's specified tightening torques must be observed.
The genuine Piaggio clutch allows the complete centrifugal clutch to be replaced without altering the standard design of the CVT transmission.
