Genuine Piaggio centrifugal clutch with three clutch shoes for various Vespa, Piaggio, Gilera, Aprilia and Derbi scooters with automatic CVT transmission. The clutch provides the speed-dependent connection between the driven pulley and the clutch bell. It enables automatic pull-away and disengages the drive at low engine speeds.
The clutch assembly is designed as a complete 3-shoe clutch. It is suitable as a genuine replacement part for worn friction linings, damaged clutch shoes or other defects of the existing centrifugal clutch.
The product images show three evenly arranged clutch shoes with wide, dark grey friction linings on the outer contact surfaces. The shoes are mounted on a common metal carrier and are held in their initial position by clutch springs.
A distinctive feature is the upper carrier plate with several radially arranged reinforcing ribs. The central mount has a flattened inner profile. On the rear is a triangular metal plate with three visible retaining rings at the pivot points of the clutch shoes.
The metal components have a yellowish, iridescent surface finish. The friction linings are attached to the outer surfaces of the three clutch shoes.
Piaggio original part number CM161202 replaces the previously used part numbers 485724 and CM144005. The clutch was used on various vehicle models and model years. As different clutch versions may be fitted within individual model ranges, compatibility should be checked using the original part number and the specific vehicle version.
Before installation, the clutch bell and driven pulley should be checked for wear and damage. The friction surfaces of the clutch shoes and clutch bell must remain free from oil and grease.
The manufacturer's specifications and prescribed tightening torques must be observed during installation. Suitable installation tools are required when working on the centrifugal clutch and CVT assembly.
