Genuine Piaggio brake arm for the mechanically operated rear drum brake of numerous Vespa, Piaggio, Aprilia, Derbi and Gilera models. The brake arm is mounted on the operating shaft of the rear brake and transfers the movement of the brake cable to the brake mechanism inside the brake drum.
The rear brake cable is connected to the brake arm using a barrel-shaped adapter. When the rear brake is operated, the brake cable pulls on the lever arm, thereby rotating the operating shaft of the drum brake.
The brake arm features a splined mount for a positive connection to the operating shaft of the drum brake. The slotted section of the mount allows the brake arm to be clamped onto the shaft. A lateral threaded mount is provided for the corresponding clamping connection.
At the opposite end is the fork-shaped mount for connecting the rear brake cable. The product images show two overlapping tabs with large holes in this area. The brake cable is connected to the brake arm here using a barrel-shaped adapter.
The brake arm is part of the mechanical brake actuation system and is therefore a safety-relevant component. During installation, the correct seating on the splines of the brake shaft, the clamping connection and the attachment of the brake cable must be checked.
After installation, the brake cable play and the function of the rear drum brake must be adjusted and checked according to the vehicle specifications.
