Genuine Piaggio key blank with integrated transponder for Gilera vehicles with an electronic immobilizer. The blank is intended for making an additional or new operating key and is listed under Piaggio original part number 949606.
Before the key can be used on the vehicle, the metal key blade must first be cut to match the existing locking system. In addition, the transponder housed inside the key head must be programmed to the electronic immobilizer before first use.
The key has a distinctive red plastic head with a flat, rounded basic shape. Several interlocking circular lines form a raised contour on both sides. The upper circle also forms a large opening integrated directly into the key head for attachment to a key ring.
The silver-coloured key blade is supplied as an uncut blank. The images show a longitudinal profile, a pronounced guide groove and the side profiling of the key blade. The tip has the basic geometric shape specified for this key blank.
As different key profiles may be used on Piaggio and Gilera vehicles depending on the model and version, the shape of the blank should be compared with the existing original key before ordering.
Piaggio original part number: 949606.
The key is supplied as a blank and is not ready for immediate use. Before programming it to the immobilizer, the key blade must already have been mechanically cut to match the existing vehicle key or ignition lock.
New keys with a transponder must be programmed to the vehicle's electronic immobilizer before first use. On appropriately equipped Piaggio and Gilera immobilizer systems, the brown master key is required for this procedure.
Important: The individual programming steps must be carried out quickly one after another. No more than 10 seconds may elapse between changing keys.
After completing the programming procedure, check the behaviour of the immobilizer indicator light. Then insert the new key and attempt to start the engine. If the engine starts normally, the key has been programmed successfully.
Note: The brown master key is essential for this programming procedure. Existing operating keys must be programmed again during the same programming sequence if they are to remain usable.
The procedure described applies to appropriately equipped Piaggio and Gilera immobilizer systems using a brown master key. Programming may differ on other generations of immobilizer systems.
