MEC EUR Fuel Tank for Vespa PX without Separate Lubrication
Without fuel gauge and with mounting for the PX Lusso fuel cap
The MEC EUR fuel tank is designed for Vespa PX models without separate lubrication and without an electric fuel gauge. Manufactured in Italy, this tank does not have a mounting point for a fuel sender or the ability to attach a separate oil tank.
In this design, the two-stroke oil is mixed directly into the fuel. The tank is therefore suitable for Vespa PX engines with classic mixture lubrication as well as for numerous older Vespa large-frame models, provided that the installation space, mounting points, and fuel cap design are compatible with the vehicle.
Unlike many early large-frame tanks, the MEC-EUR tank is designed for the convenient fuel cap of the PX Lusso series. The fuel valve, fuel cap, gasket between the tank and frame, and other mounting hardware are not included.

Also suitablefor older Largeframe models: can be used depending on the vehicle and existing fuel tank design
Replacement for damaged tanks: in cases of corrosion, leaks, or damaged connections
Without a fuel gauge or fuel level sensor mount
This tank has no opening for a mechanical or electrical fuel level sensor. It is therefore intended for vehicles in which the fuel level is not displayed via a gauge in the steering head.
On these vehicles, the fuel level is traditionally checked by monitoring the odometer reading, looking into the tank, or checking the reserve indicator on the fuel valve.
Features of this fuel tank design
No mounting point for a fuel level sensor
No connection for an electronic fuel gauge
No additional oil tank
Plain top of the tank with no sensor opening
Fuel reserve is accessed via the fuel valve
Not for vehicles with a factory-installed fuel gauge
If the vehicle has an electronic fuel gauge, its fuel sensor cannot be installed on this tank.
Check the existing tank for a fuel sensor opening
Check the dashboard or steering head for a fuel gauge
If a gauge is present, select a tank model with a compatible fuel sender mount
Do not confuse fuel tank models with and without a sensor mounting hole
For engines with oil-in-fuel lubrication
Since the tank does not have a mounting for a separate oil tank, the engine runs on premixed fuel. The required two-stroke oil is added directly to the gasoline in the specified amount when refueling.
This design corresponds to the classic lubrication system of early Vespa large-frame engines and various PX models without separate lubrication.
Don’t forget the two-stroke oil
An engine without a separate lubrication system must not be run on pure gasoline. A lack of two-stroke oil will quickly lead to severe engine damage.
Observe the engine’s specified mixing ratio
Measure the amount of oil according to the amount of fuel added
Use oil suitable for air-cooled two-stroke engines
Mix the fuel and oil thoroughly
If modifications have been made, follow the specifications for the cylinder being used
PX-Lusso fuel cap instead of the classic flip-top cap
The fuel tank is designed for the fuel cap from the PX-Lusso series. This cap opens and closes via a twist mechanism and differs from the classic flip-top cap found on many earlier Vespa large-frame models.
When used in an older vehicle, the Lusso fuel cap offers a more convenient solution. However, the existing old flip-top cap cannot simply be reused.
Mounting for PX-Lusso fuel cap
Twist-lock mechanism instead of the classic flip-top mechanism
Fuel cap not included
Check the fuel cap gasket before installation
Check that the cap closes securely and is properly vented
For use in older Vespa large-frame models
According to the manufacturer, the version without separate lubrication and without a fuel gauge can also be used in numerous Vespa large-frame models predating the introduction of the PX Lusso.
Depending on the frame and fuel tank design, these include, among others, the older Vespa PX, Sprint, GT, GTR, and TS. However, due to the mounting for the PX Lusso fuel cap, this fuel cap differs from the classic design of earlier models.
Check compatibility with older models beforehand
Compare the shape and installation position of the existing fuel tank
Check the position of the fuel valve
Check the mounting to the frame
Check for sufficient clearance under the seat
Plan for the PX-Lusso fuel cap separately
If applicable, take into account any existing luggage compartment or seat modifications
Made in Italy and true to the original design
The MEC EUR tank is manufactured in Italy. Its shape is based on the factory-standard tank design of the Vespa PX and the later PX-Lusso series.
This makes it suitable as a replacement for a fuel tank that is rusted on the inside, leaking, or mechanically damaged, without altering the vehicle’s basic fuel system.
When is a new tank a good idea?
Vespa fuel tanks are often several decades old. Condensation, long periods of inactivity, and old fuel can cause corrosion inside the tank. Rust particles then enter the fuel line through the fuel valve and travel on to the carburetor.
Cleaning the tank may be sufficient for minor surface rust. In cases of severe corrosion, leaky seams, or damaged connection points, replacement is often the more reliable solution.
Signs of a damaged fuel tank
Rust particles in the fuel valve, fuel hose, or carburetor
Fuel that has turned brown or reddish
Repeatedly clogged carburetor jets
Fuel odor when the vehicle is parked
Moisture or drips near the fuel tank
Leaky welds
Damaged fuel valve housing
Severe internal corrosion

Installation Instructions
Fuel valve: Install using a suitable fuel valve wrench
Gasket: Do not place the tank directly on the frame without the gasket
Fuel hose: Route the hose so it is free of kinks and of the correct length
Fuel cap: Check the gasket, vent, and ensure the cap is securely closed
Mounting: Insert the tank into the frame without applying any tension
Leak test: Start by filling the tank with only a small amount of fuel
Connections: Check the fuel valve and hose connection for fuel leaks
Mixture: Add the specified amount of two-stroke oil before the first ride
Conclusion
The MEC EUR tank is a replacement solution for the Vespa PX and other large-frame models without separate lubrication and without a fuel gauge. Its closed top does not require a fuel level sensor mount and is suitable for vehicles with classic mixture lubrication.
Thanks to the mounting for the PX Lusso fuel cap, the tank combines an installation design close to the original with the convenient twist-lock closure of later PX models. On older vehicles, this closure replaces the classic flip-top cap.
The fuel valve, fuel cap, frame gasket, and mounting hardware are not included and must be purchased separately or reused from the existing tank. Before ordering, be sure to check the fuel gauge, lubrication system, and cap design directly on the vehicle.
FAQs about the MEC EUR Fuel Tank for Vespa PX
The tank is designed for Vespa PX models without a separate lubrication system and without a fuel gauge. Depending on the vehicle model, it can also be used on older large-frame models such as the classic PX, Sprint, GT, GTR, or TS.
No. This fuel tank model does not have an opening or mounting point for a fuel level sensor and therefore cannot power an electronic fuel gauge.
No. There is no mounting point for a separate oil tank. The two-stroke oil must be mixed directly with the fuel in the specified ratio.
The tank is designed for a fuel cap from the PX-Lusso series. A classic flip-top cap from early Vespa large-frame models cannot be used.
No. The fuel valve, fuel cap, gaskets, and other mounting hardware must be purchased separately or reused from the existing tank.
According to the supplier, this version is also suitable for numerous Vespa large-frame models manufactured before 1984. However, since the PX-Lusso fuel cap is used, the shape, mounting points, and installation space should be compared directly with the existing tank before ordering.
Yes. The gasket prevents the tank from resting directly on the frame panel. A damaged, hardened, or missing gasket should be replaced.
A suitable fuel valve wrench is recommended for proper installation of the fuel valve. This allows you to access the internal mounting nut and tighten it properly.
Yes. The inside of the tank should be checked for foreign objects. After installing the fuel valve and fuel hose, it is recommended to first perform a leak test using a small amount of fuel.
