The old Vespa engines with separate swing arm have a very complex kick start mechanism. If this is obviously intact, it should not be disassembled. Often this only happens because the engine is not tight at this point and gear oil leaks out.
This defect can be repaired quickly, easily and inexpensively by simply replacing the felt ring and the cover plate of the same.
