ADVANTAGES:
Compared to a conventional electronic ignition, the BGM stator plate features specially coordinated coil windings. This significantly increases the efficiency of the alternator.
Available individually or as a complete kit:
AC/DC?
The alternators are available in both AC and DC versions:
AC
For converting to a good electronic ignition, the AC version is ideal. The onboard wiring remains largely as Innocenti intended, ideally with a new wiring loom.
DC
Conversion to DC only makes sense in combination with a sufficiently sized battery (from 5Ah). The entire lighting current is routed via a so-called full-wave regulator directly to the battery, which then powers all consumers. The required full-wave regulator is included in the corresponding AC set – the battery must be ordered separately. The benefit is flicker-free light even at idle. Downsides: battery required, higher charging losses at low revs (regulator gets hot), and wiring loom modifications.
TIP: The DC ignition can also be used as an AC ignition at any time. Just ground the red/yellow wire. The yellow wire then becomes the power lead for use with a standard voltage regulator (e.g. BGM6690).
WHICH ENGINES?
The ignition kits are available for both crankshaft types used in Lambretta Series 3 models:
Note: The BGM ignition has been carefully engineered and works perfectly with all common ignition components, especially the BGM flywheel.
To ensure optimal conditions for the BGM ignition, we include spacer plates for the pickup with version 4.0. This allows the stator plate to be used with flywheels that have non-standard trigger heights (e.g. AF flywheels) or when crankcase and/or crankshaft tolerances overlap unfavorably.
