The SIP VAPE Road "Black Edition" brings modern 12-volt technology to the Vespa PK series with a large crankshaft cone (M12). The system works completely contact-free, delivers impressive light output even at low engine speeds and ensures very clean starting and running characteristics. Technology and performance data correspond to the well-known SIP VAPE Road ignition, supplemented by the black matt anodized CNC fan wheel as a discreet style and performance upgrade.
The one-piece pole wheel with 12 magnets and the 9-coil alternator together provide up to 110 W of power - ideal for powerful headlights, indicators, brake lights and additional consumers. The flywheel mass is selected so that the engine is willing to accelerate without appearing nervous.
SIP VAPE ignition systems are manufactured in Europe and each unit is electrically tested. The one-piece pole wheel is precisely balanced and matched to the crankshaft with large cone (Ø20/20 mm or ETS Ø24/25 mm, pole wheel nut M12). The CNC-milled fan wheelof the Black Edition has a matt black coating and offers optimized blade geometry for high cooling performance with a stable flywheel mass.
The VAPE completely replaces the original ignition system - whether contact ignition or early electronic version. High-performance permanent magnets and a modern CDI ensure a powerful ignition spark, reliable starting behavior and stable engine running. There is no need for maintenance work on contacts or capacitors.
The system operates as a 12 V AC system ex works. By replacing it with a DC voltage regulator, the ignition can easily be converted to a fully-fledged DC on-board electrical system. All consumers are then supplied from the battery - ideal for parking lights, powerful LED headlights or USB chargers.
This road version is supplied with a CDI with static ignition timing. This covers classic road setups from standard to heavily tuned very well. A dynamic CDI (available separately) can be used as an option if an ignition curve setup that matches the engine is required.
The system is always mounted on the original mounting points of the Vespa PK engines with large cone. Clear markings on the base plate and pole wheel facilitate the basic setting of the ignition timing. For precise tuning setups, however, we recommend checking the ignition with a strobe light.
It is important that the base plate is screwed together without tension and that the earth connections are clean. After the first 50-100 km, all fastening screws should be retightened.
The pole wheel uses an M12 cone matching the crankshaft (20/20 mm or 24/25 mm for ETS) and has a groove to prevent incorrect installation. The flywheel mass is the result of the pole wheel plus fan wheel and is tuned so that the engine revs up spontaneously but runs smoothly at idle. The "Black Edition" fan wheel is CNC-machined from aluminium, coated in matt black and has an optimized blade geometry for high cooling performance.
Many Vespa PK models already have a 12 V system, but often with different wiring and outdated wiring harnesses. The SIP VAPE works as a centrally regulated system: all coils feed a main cable into the voltage regulator, from where the consumers are supplied. This makes the wiring different from some original PK wiring harnesses.
For a clean conversion, we recommend an adapted wiring harness or careful revision of the existing electrical system. We stock suitable conversion wiring harnesses in our store - clear color assignment, defined ground points and modern plug connections make installation easier.
This kit is specially designed for PK50-125, PK XL/XL2, ETS and Vespa 100 Sport with large crankshaft coneand M12 pole nut. It uses the stable crankshaft mount of these models and combines it with modern VAPE technology.
If you want to change from older smallframe engines with a small cone (Ø19 mm/M10) to this system, you need a corresponding crankshaft with a large cone and the kit described here - or alternatively choose the VAPE version for the small cone.
