Original EGIG PERFORMANCE replacement piston ring set, Ø65 mm, for the gray cast iron cylinders of the EGIG 170/180/187-cm³ series. Compatible with both the short 51-mm and long 56-mm piston versions.
One piston ring set for three displacement variants: The EGIG 170, 180, and 187 cm³ models all use the same cylinder bore of Ø65 mm. The differences in displacement result from the respective crankshaft stroke and do not require different piston ring diameters.
Genuine EGIG PERFORMANCE replacement piston ring set for the entire 170/180/187-cm³ gray cast iron cylinder series. The set includes two piston rings with a nominal diameter of Ø65 mm and is suitable for overhauling an existing EGIG engine or for replacing damaged or worn piston rings.
What makes the EGIG concept unique is that all three displacement variants use the same gray cast iron cylinder with a 65 mm bore. The difference in displacement results from the respective crankshaft stroke and is accounted for by the appropriate cylinder head and installation configuration.
The piston rings can therefore be used regardless of whether the engine is configured as an EGIG 170, 180, or 187 cm³. The set is designed for the corresponding EGIG pistons, including the short 51-mm and long 56-mm versions.
Piston rings perform several important functions in a two-stroke engine. They seal the combustion chamber off from the crankcase, facilitate heat transfer from the piston to the cylinder bore, and influence the lubricating film on the cylinder wall.
As mileage increases, the rings can lose their preload and sealing effectiveness due to wear. This can cause compression to drop, which may manifest as, among other things, poorer starting performance, reduced engine power, or a decline in power delivery.
New, properly installed piston rings restore the intended seal provided the piston and cylinder are otherwise intact. They are therefore an important component of a professional engine overhaul.
All three EGIG gray-cast iron cylinders are based on the same cylinder bore of Ø65 mm. Since the differences in displacement result exclusively from the crankshaft stroke, the same type of piston ring is used for the specified EGIG pistons.
| Engine variant | Cylinder Bore | Piston Ring Set |
|---|---|---|
| EGIG 170 cm³ | Ø65 mm | 2 piston rings |
| EGIG 180 cm³ | Ø65 mm | 2 piston rings |
| EGIG 187 cm³ | Ø65 mm | 2 piston rings |
The EGIG 170/180/187 series offers two piston versions with different skirt lengths:
Both piston versions use the corresponding EGIG piston ring set with a nominal diameter of Ø65 mm. The different piston skirt lengths do not affect the required ring diameter.

The set contains both piston rings for one piston. Piston, piston pin, retaining clips, and cylinder are not included.
When replacing the piston rings, the piston and cylinder bore should be carefully inspected. New piston rings can only provide a reliable seal if the cylinder bore is within the permissible wear limits and the piston’s ring grooves are undamaged.
Before installation, check the following points in particular:
Important: In two-stroke engines, the retaining pins in the piston prevent the piston rings from rotating during operation and their ring joints from entering the control channels. Therefore, the rings must never be installed offset from the designated ring pins.
When installing the cylinder, gently compress the piston rings and ensure they do not catch on the channel edges. Installation should be performed using suitable two-stroke oil.

Typical vehicle models:
Compatibility depends on the use of an EGIG piston with a nominal diameter of 65 mm, not on the vehicle’s original displacement class.
Yes. All three EGIG displacement variants use the same gray cast iron cylinder with a 65 mm bore and the corresponding piston ring type. The different crankshaft stroke has no effect on the required ring diameter.
Yes. The set is designed for EGIG pistons with 51 mm and 56 mm stroke lengths. Both versions have the appropriate ring groove geometry for this piston ring set.
It is recommended to replace both rings at the same time. This ensures that both ring positions have a comparable level of wear, and the seal can be restored evenly.
Insert the piston ring individually and at a right angle into the cylinder bore. Then measure the distance between the ring ends using a feeler gauge. The permissible ring end-to-end clearance is determined by the manufacturer’s specifications.
If worn piston rings are the cause and the piston and cylinder bore are still within the permissible tolerances, replacing them can improve the seal. In cases of severe cylinder wear or damaged ring grooves, new rings alone are not sufficient.
No. The package includes only two piston rings for one EGIG piston. Other piston components are available separately.
