Alternator and voltage regulator

The BGM PRO set relies on a modern electrical system with voltage regulator. The alternator has modified coil wiring and produces a high voltage even at low engine speeds. This ensures a bright, stable light even at idling speed. At high engine speeds, the voltage regulator automatically regulates to a stable and gentle 12-13 volts. This also offers the option of charging a battery and/or supporting a USB charging socket for a cell phone, navigation system, etc.

Ignition (CDI)

The BGM Pro ignition uses the CDI technology that has been tried and tested millions of times, as used by Piaggio since the 1980s. The ignition pulse is triggered contactlessly via a so-called pick-up signal. The high ignition current ensures perfect starting behavior under all conditions, even at low engine speeds. The contactless ignition triggering is stable well into the five-digit speed range. In the current version, the newly developed BGM ProRev PickUp with reinforced resistors is used, which offers an extended tolerance range for axial pole wheel misalignment - particularly advantageous for retrofitted old engines with overhung crankshaft bearings.

BGM ProRev PickUp (current version)

The BGM ProRev PickUp is designed for continuous use in classic large-frame engines. Reinforced resistors and an extended operating range make it significantly less sensitive to axial misalignment of the pole wheel and crankshaft, which can occur when retrofitting older engines with overhung crankshaft bearings. This means that the ignition signal remains stable even under less than ideal mechanical conditions.

Pole wheel

At 2300 grams, the pole wheel is perfectly matched to large-frame engines. It offers a wonderful mixture of smooth running and very good acceleration. The pole wheels are finely balanced, offer fantastic concentricity, high ignition timing accuracy and very good magnetization. Thanks to the optimized circumference and the vane surfaces, the engine responds very well to the throttle.

Important note on conversion

Vehicles without a voltage regulator ex works (all up to approx. 1980) also require a new vehicle wiring harness for the conversion.
The appropriate wiring harness is available separately from us.
This wiring harness has a centralized power supply (one cable) for combination with the enclosed voltage regulator.

Conclusion

A very nice set for converting a classic Vespa to a modern, reliable and powerful electrical system. All components are permanently available as spare parts.

FAQ

Yes, if the vehicle was built before around 1980 and does not yet have a voltage regulator ex works (which is the case with the models mentioned). Our conversion wiring harness makes it much easier to connect the new 12V regulator.
Yes. The included voltage regulator provides stabilized direct current (DC) that can be used to charge a battery or to connect directly to a USB charging socket.
This weight has proven to be the ideal compromise for large-frame motors. It is lighter than many originals (better revving), but heavy enough to ensure smooth idling and good running when cruising.
This is how we ensure, that reviews come from real consumers.
