BDShoop in Jakarta: bgm Power & Genuine Scooter Passion in Indonesia

At the beginning of the year, we had the pleasure of visiting the store of our long-standing partner Bagus : BDShoop in Jakarta. For many years, Bagus has been a staple in Indonesia when it comes to spare parts, accessories, and the restoration of Vespas and Lambrettas.

From Jakarta, he supplies mechanics and enthusiasts throughout the country. A particular focus is on high-quality bgm parts for Lambretta —from precision-fit gaskets and shock absorbers to cable assemblies to clutches. Even though Lambrettas account for an estimated 20% of the classic scooter market in Indonesia, Bagus is passionately dedicated to keeping these icons on the road.

The History of the “Helicak”: When Lambrettas Dominated Jakarta’s Streets

During our visit, Bagus shared fascinating stories from the local scooter history with us. First and foremost was the story of the Helicak:

The Helicak was a three-wheeled passenger taxi based on the Lambretta 150 cc (2-stroke engine with 8.7 to 8.8 PS), which was officially introduced in Jakarta on March 24, 1971. The name is a combination of “helicopter” and “becak” (rickshaw), as the curved passenger cabin strongly resembled a cockpit.

Since passengers sat unprotected right at the front, then-Governor Ali Sadikin later decided to phase out the system gradually for safety reasons. In the 1990s, the Helicaks were finally and permanently replaced by microsatellite buses (“Mikrolet”). A piece of living Lambretta history!

Bagus lives and breathes scooter culture. Every product is professionally photographed. Our advertisement hangs proudly on the walls of his shop—right next to flyers and mementos from major events like Vespa Mayday. BDShoop isn’t just a parts dealer; it’s a true hub of the Indonesian scooter scene.

Ride Out with “60s Jabodetabek”: Pure Joy on Two Wheels

The absolute highlight followed shortly after: Bagus and his team organized an exclusive ride-out through Jakarta for us with the crew from 60s Jabodetabek.

This group is known far beyond the country’s borders for their perfectly restored 1960s Vespas—and above all for their brilliant riding style! On social media, the guys are famous for their signature moves: air guitar solos on the footboard, dancing, or blowing kisses and making heart shapes for the spectators.

Cruising through the streets with them was pure joy on two wheels!
