Convert Vespa PX battery to electrics without battery - Conversion wiring harness bgm Vespa PX

Easily upgrade your old Vespa PX with a battery now

A modern electrical system without a battery on your scooter will not ruin its appearance; it is an invisible and economical gain in safety and comfort because:
  • Without a battery, there is no need for purchase, replacement, or maintenance of the battery
  • Your electrical system and all consumers work independently of the battery’s condition or charge level
  • You efficiently prevent corrosion damage to your Vespa PX caused by an overheated battery/battery acid
  • Significantly more safety due to increased lighting performance = increased visibility = being seen better & seeing better

Conversion Wiring Loom for all Vespa PX models up to the year 1982

This wiring loom is perfectly suited to convert your Vespa PX, which originally came with a battery from the Piaggio factory, to a modern and maintenance-free electrical system without a battery. For this, we offer an affordable and practical kit with all the necessary new switches and ignition lock (BGM6685KT).

Additionally, there is a version for exchanging/restoring the PX wiring loom in the Italian version for models without a battery. This version powers the turn signals, the horn (called the "snare"), and all other consumers directly via the AC electrical network. Corresponding to this is the ignition plate used in these vehicles, which has only 3 wires (contact ignition models) or 5 wires (vehicles with electronic ignition).

Vespa PX without battery: Conversion without a battery

For the conversion of your scooter to modern electrics, you need the following parts and will save the battery, winter storage, and maintenance of the vehicle battery in the future:
  • REGULATOR This wiring loom generally uses the simple 3-pin regulator (G|G|M) (e.g., 9100001). The originally used 5-pin regulator (A|A|B+|G|M) for vehicles delivered with a battery can still be used. The B+ and G connections will remain unused (formerly for charging the battery). A better alternative is the compact and powerful BGM Pro regulator (BGM6690). This can also power a 12V USB socket for charging phones, GPS, etc.
  • IGNITION / IGNITION PLATE / LIMA For the ignition plate, the 5-wire version is used (also recognizable by the blue and black wires for the single power supply). The original 7-wire Lima from models with a battery cannot be used. These models, however, are often damaged due to aging. It is therefore highly recommended to switch to the more powerful ignition plate from later Lusso models (e.g., BGM8025N or BGM8032N) as it will significantly increase the entire lighting performance of the AC network since no power will be diverted for battery charging. This allows even older PX models to be equipped with a 35/35W lamp. Most 5-wire generators have a round connector. The wiring loom offered here (like the original Italian one) uses 6.3mm flat connectors. You can either convert the wiring loom to a round connector or the ignition plate to flat connectors. The necessary parts are available in the accessories.
  • TURN SIGNAL RELAY Models with a battery use a DC (direct current) turn signal relay. After conversion, an AC (alternating current) turn signal relay is needed (e.g., 1195703).
  • MANUAL / WIRING DIAGRAM To connect the wires, the following manual / wiring diagram will help you.

Checklist: Spare parts / Parts connected to the wiring loom

To ensure everything works, you should go through this list and check whether your old parts are still okay. If not, you can order them directly in our Vespa shop via the links:

CONCLUSION: An absolutely worthwhile upgrade to modern, more powerful, and maintenance-free electrics
