How do you adjust a carburetor? Jet sets for DellOrto Mikuni and Keihin

Adjusting the carburetor with the precision part carburetor jet

For the adjustment of the ignition there are now excellent tools like the Buzzwangle or the Walwhich allow an exact ignition position and make the work extremely easier. Adjusting the carburetor, on the other hand, is for many the most difficult part when tuning a scooter. While adjusting the air mixture and idle is still more of a child's play, determining the correct jet sizes for the individual engine setup becomes more elaborate. Here carburetor needles, jet holder, main and idle jets work together and, perfectly matched, result in a clean setup. If a jet that is too small is selected, the engine runs too lean, gets too hot, and major damage is preprogrammed. Also, a jet that is too large and too rich a setting can lead to engine damage. Not to mention that the engine's capacity is not fully utilized and time and money spent on elaborate tuning literally go up in smoke.

DellOrto jets, for example, are stamped with a number that refers to the size of the bore. So a 100 jet is equipped with a diameter of 1 mm, a 115 jet 1.15 mm (!!) so only a tiny amount of 0.15 mm larger! If you want to be on the safe side here and rely on highly precise tuning, we recommend using the jets from bgm PRO or from KMT. These jet sets are characterized by
  • high precision bore
  • minimal tolerances
  • meticulously precise gradation of jet sizes
  • easily readable numbers
  • high quality of workmanship and material
  • quality control
  • incl. storage box

Precision jets from bgm PRO or KMT for clean engine tuning

You have invested a lot of love, time and money in your engine tuning. But the most expensive and elaborate tuning, with the best components, is worth little if the engine does not run smoothly or if a poorly adjusted carburetor does not allow optimal combustion. In order to be able to properly tune the engine, highly precisely manufactured carburetor jets are therefore a very important prerequisite and make adjustment much easier!

At an institute, we had the new bgm PRO carburetor jets inspected. Here's a look into a 118 jet, with the measurement of 1.1779 mm the bore with a deviation of only one thousandth of a millimeter is in the green range and thus in order!
