The Moto Nostra oil sump combines the proven design of the original Piaggio oil sump with an additional feature for checking the engine oil level directly. The integrated sight glass allows the oil level to be checked from outside without having to unscrew the dipstick. A practical addition for regular maintenance of Vespa GT, GTS and GTV models with Quasar engines, as well as other vehicles with the corresponding engine design.
The housing is made of cast aluminium and features a gloss black powder-coated finish. The coating provides a uniform, durable surface and gives the component a discreet, high-quality appearance. The machined sealing surfaces, threads and connection areas remain free of coating.
The main difference compared with the standard oil sump is the integrated sight glass on the side. It allows a quick visual inspection of the engine oil without removing the dipstick. This is particularly convenient when checking the oil level regularly.
The sight glass is installed in a dedicated mounting point in the oil sump housing. The oil level can be viewed from outside, allowing an immediate assessment of the amount of oil present. The original threaded opening for filling and checking the oil remains unchanged.
For a reliable reading, the vehicle must be positioned on level ground and kept as horizontal as possible. Even slight tilting can significantly affect the indicated level. The oil level should therefore always be checked under comparable conditions and in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer's instructions.
The geometry of the Moto Nostra oil sump is based on the original Piaggio design. The characteristic reinforcing ribs, mounting points and shape of the oil reservoir are retained. The construction is complemented by the integrated mounting point for the sight glass.
The gloss black powder coating highlights the contours of the housing and creates a uniform finish across the external surfaces. The surrounding sealing surface is precisely machined and, like the threaded connections, remains uncoated with a bare metal finish.
The Moto Nostra oil sump is designed to replace the original Piaggio oil sump with part number 846096. This design is used particularly on various liquid-cooled Piaggio Quasar engines with displacements of 250 and 300 cc, as well as selected engines from the Leader series.
It also replaces the identical Royal Alloy oil sumps with original part numbers 100071687 and 100761824, as used on the corresponding GP 300 and TG 300 models.
Before installation, thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces of the engine crankcase and inspect them for damage. The supplied oil sump gasket is fitted between the engine crankcase and the oil sump. The mounting bolts must be tightened evenly according to the manufacturer's specifications.
After installation, the oil sump must be filled with the specified quantity of engine oil, or the oil level must be adjusted accordingly. The sealing connections and the sight glass must then be checked for leaks.
Important: The oil level indicated in the sight glass depends on the position of the vehicle. For an accurate reading, the vehicle must be kept horizontal. The manufacturer's specified conditions regarding engine temperature and waiting time after switching off the engine must also be observed. If there is any uncertainty, the oil level should additionally be checked using the method specified by the manufacturer.
The Moto Nostra oil sump makes regular engine oil level checks easier and quicker. The integrated sight glass adds a practical inspection feature to the original oil sump design, while the gloss black finish provides a clean and understated appearance.
