Checking the oil level should be as straightforward as possible. The Moto Nostra oil sump with integrated sight glass allows the engine oil level to be inspected directly at the engine housing without having to unscrew the oil dipstick every time. It replaces the corresponding original Piaggio oil sump and combines its proven design with an additional inspection feature.
This version features a matt black powder-coated finish. The uniform, low-reflection surface blends discreetly into the engine area and creates a deliberately understated, technical appearance. The oil sump is particularly suitable for Vespa GT, GTS and GTV models with 250–300 cc Quasar engines, as well as other vehicles using the corresponding oil sump design.
The integrated sight glass on the side provides a direct view of the oil level. This is a practical alternative to the conventional dipstick method, particularly for regular inspections. For a simple visual check, there is no need to unscrew, clean and reinsert the dipstick.
The sight glass is installed in a dedicated mounting point in the oil sump housing. It is accessible from outside and allows the visible oil level to be checked, provided the specified inspection conditions are observed. The original oil filler neck with its internal thread remains fully functional, so the oil level can still be checked using the dipstick.
The horizontal position of the vehicle is essential. Even slight deviations can significantly affect the indicated oil level. Checks must therefore be carried out on level ground and in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer's instructions. The sight glass does not replace the specified conditions for measuring the oil level.
The Moto Nostra oil sump is made from a cast aluminium housing whose shape follows the original Piaggio design. The external reinforcing ribs, mounting holes and contours of the oil reservoir correspond to the intended installation arrangement. The housing is additionally equipped with a mounting point for the oil sight glass.
The matt black powder coating creates a consistent, uniform surface appearance. Compared with the gloss black version, light reflections are considerably less pronounced. This gives the oil sump a restrained technical appearance that blends harmoniously into the engine area.
The surrounding sealing surface on the inside is precisely machined and, like the internal thread of the filler neck, remains free of coating. The product images also show the original-style mounting points and the cast-in reference number 846096.
The oil sump is designed to replace the original Piaggio oil sump with part number 846096. This design is used on various Piaggio engines from the Quasar and Leader series. These include, in particular, liquid-cooled 250 and 300 cc engines fitted to numerous Vespa GTS, GT and GTV models.
In addition, the Moto Nostra oil sump replaces the identical Royal Alloy original parts with part numbers 100071687 and 100761824. It is therefore also suitable for the corresponding Royal Alloy GP 300 and TG 300 models.
The integrated sight glass adds an additional inspection feature to the standard oil sump design while retaining the existing oil filler neck and original mounting geometry.
Before installation, the sealing surfaces of the engine crankcase must be thoroughly cleaned and inspected for damage. The supplied oil sump gasket is fitted between the engine crankcase and the oil sump. The mounting bolts must be tightened evenly to the torque specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
After installation, the specified quantity of engine oil must be added or the oil level adjusted accordingly. The sealing connection to the engine crankcase and the sight glass must then be checked for leaks.
For oil level inspection, the vehicle must stand horizontally on level ground. The manufacturer's specified conditions regarding engine temperature and waiting time after switching off the engine must be observed. A Vespa standing at an angle may display an incorrect oil level in the sight glass. If there is any uncertainty, the oil level should additionally be checked using the dipstick according to the method specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
The Moto Nostra oil sump in matt black is a functional alternative to the standard oil sump. It provides an additional way to check the oil level quickly and combines the familiar Piaggio design with a discreet, technical-looking finish.
