From October 1, 2024, an updated winter tire regulation will come into force: the M+S marking, which was previously sufficient, must be supplemented by the Alpine symbol in future. But there is also good news: mopeds, Vespas, Lambrettas, scooters and motorcycles are exempt from this regulation!
This is because car and truck tires are tested in accordance with ECE regulations no. 30 and no. 54. The Alpine symbol or the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol (3PMSF) is prescribed for them. Motorcycle tires, on the other hand, fall under ECE Regulation No. 75, which does not require such a marking. Therefore, motorcycle tires will not have to carry an Alpine symbol in the future either.
And even if the use of winter tires is not mandatory in winter road conditions, it is always advisable to use tires with optimum grip.
