Pinasco aluminum rims for Vespa

Pinasco now offers a version with a TüV test report . Based on this test report, the rims can be registered by the TüV after prior consultation in an individual approval. However, the test report is no guarantee that the TüV will register the rims. You should contact your test center beforehand.Felge Pinasco KBA 264

What are the advantages of tubeless tires?

  • in the event of damage to the tread, the air can only escape slowly, the tire remains stable for longer
  • no inner tube that can burst or get pinched during fitting
  • no inner tube can be damaged if the tread punctures the rim
  • the valve cannot be torn off if the tire moves on the rim under increased load or low air pressure
  • no inner tube can rub against the tire

Two-piece rim - easy mounting

Until now, the available rims for mounting tubeless tires were one-piece, as is usual for cars or motorcycles. However, the design of the rims was severely restricted by the brake drum specification. Due to this restriction, mounting the tires on the one-piece rims was often very difficult and even impossible for some tires without damaging the tire. This negated one of the advantages of the Vespa that had always been advertised, namely the quick tire change due to separable rims. Without suitable workshop equipment, mounting on a one-piece rim cannot be carried out on the roadside. Pinasco has recognized this shortcoming and has now finally brought out a split tubeless rim that once again offers the advantages of quick tire mounting. We have taken a closer look at the new Pinasco rim for you.

Mounting the Vespa rim

The first step should be to mount the valve. The easiest way to fit the valve is with a little tire mounting paste. Then prepare the wide half of the rim with a little tire mounting paste and fit the tire, starting at the valve. Please note that your tire may have a directional tread pattern, which may differ when mounted on the front or rear wheel.Felge Pinasco KBA 294 If the tire is positioned correctly, the O-ring will find its way into its groove.Felge Pinasco KBA 262 If the O-ring is seated correctly, you can put on the small rim half. Both halves are now connected with 10 screws. Pinasco specifies a maximum torque of 18 Nm for this. The nuts are held positively in the large rim half. The head of the Allen screw is secured against self-loosening with a Schnorr washer.Felge Pinasco KBA 260 With 10 bolts connected, the tire can now be inflated to a maximum of 1.8 bar. If the tire still does not settle in the rim bed despite the mounting paste, the tire can be "set" with a maximum of 3 bar when the complete wheel is attached to the brake drum. Without the five additional fixing points of the brake drum, the rim halves may spread too much and the pressure may escape. After mounting on the brake drum, this possibility no longer exists and the system reliably retains the pressure. Pinasco recommends nuts with locking teeth for mounting the rim on the brake drum. Unlike the snap rings previously used on steel rims, the rim is not damaged when the screw connection is loosened.

Track offset

Some one-piece tubeless rims have a track offset due to their design. Pinasco, on the other hand, was able to maintain the original offset due to the two-piece design of the rim.

Spare wheel

Due to its design, the Pinasco rim can only be fitted to the PX as a spare wheel with a little trickery. The original bracket for the spare wheel is modified with spacer nuts so that the wheel is mounted "upside down", i.e. with the valve facing the side cover. Here as an example on an LML frame, where this type of mounting ensures better accessibility to the valve even with a standard wheel.LML Rahmen

Which tires fit?

As already mentioned above, all standard tires in sizes 90/90-10, 3.00-10 and 3.50-10 fit on the Pinasco rim. With the one-piece rims, it has often been a game of chance which tires can be mounted without damage. However, you should pay attention to a small but important detail when buying tires. Your new tire should contain the important addition "TL" or "Tubeless". A tire with the marking "TT", i.e. tube type, does not necessarily have to be gas-tight due to its design. Therefore, please only use tires with the addition "TL" on your tubeless rim.Felge Pinasco KBA 302 You can find even more information about your new tire in our online manual and at Vespa-Reifen.de

The Pinasco rim also fits vehicles with disc brakes. However, you should check the clearance in each individual case. Unfortunately, a PM brake calliper fitted for testing did not fit together with the Piansco rim. The standard brake calipers from Grimeca, LML and HengTong (Piaggio) fit the radius of the Pinasco rim without any problems.

You should have this in your luggage in case of a puncture

Your Pinasco rim is held together by Allen screws. If you are ever in the position of having to separate the rim on the road, you should also have a suitable Allen key on board. The wrench set from Toptul contains all common sizes from 1.5mm - 10mm and the Allen keys can also be stored "rattle-free" in the glove compartment in the practical storage magazine.Toptul Inbus We recommend a repair kit for tubeless tires so that you can continue your tour without a spare wheel in case of damage.BGM8803 In the case of the Pinasco rim, a tube could even be inserted into the tire after removing the valve [su_spacer] [su_box title="VESPA ALUMINIUM RIM" radius="1"][su_row][su_column size="1/2"]
