Soul Brothers Jakarta: The mod scene in Indonesia

Vespas and lambrettas are far more than just a means of transportation in Indonesia - they are at the heart of vibrant subcultures. While I've already told you all about the wild "Extreme Vespas", there is a world at the other end of the spectrum that exists in perfect harmony alongside it: the Indonesian mod scene.

Soul Brothers: the ambassadors of British style in Jakarta

The club that represents this movement like no other is the Soul Brothers. On my last day in Jakarta, they welcomed me with open arms and organized a ride-out that was the perfect end to my entire trip to Indonesia.

From Doc Martens to a close-knit community

Adreethe head of the group, told me about the beginnings in December 2010. What started as a shared hobby - collecting Doc Martens and an enthusiasm for British culture - led to the founding of the Soul Brothers. From the outset, the aim was to create a forum in which everything to do with fashion, music and, of course, scooters could be discussed.

From four founders to an influential community

There were only four of them at the beginning. They started exploring the city and attending every event in British subculture. They quickly realized that there was an enormous need for information - many like-minded people were looking for exactly this exchange and joined them. What began in small circles has now developed into a recognized community that has significantly shaped the "mod lifestyle" in Indonesia - from special scooter styling to the choice of music.

Support and own events: a busy schedule

The Soul Brothers are a pillar of the Indonesian scene. They not only support major events organized by friendly communities - such as the Jakarta Mods Mayday (Warrior Jakarta), the Indonesia Mods Mayday (Beatboys Bandung), Bopscoot Bogor (Bogor Mods Mayday) Wondersoul Weekender Jakarta (Big Beat) classofeighties Jakarta (Scootervaganza) and many more.
Brother Soul also have their annual events organized in line with mod culture, including music, scooters and fashion.

• Keep The Family: An event for the members who continuously support the scene.
• Jakarta Mod Offenders: Their own big Mayday celebration.
• Jakarta March of the Mods: An important charity event for the benefit of young people with cancer.
• Independence Day At The Top: Indonesian Independence Day celebrations.

They also shine with international collaborations such as Get Connected (Beatboys, RetroriaRisign Sun, Boistown), Scootin Smooth (Wondersoul Weekender), Gonna Fix You Good (The Eclipse & The Numbers Tokyo Japan) and last but not least the Sunday Morning Ride, which I personally took part in. That fills me with real pride, because it was actually the very first ride of 2026! It was an indescribable feeling to ring in the new scooter year right in Jakarta with so much style and passion.
I was especially happy to take this opportunity to meet members of other clubs that I had met during my trip, for example from 60s_jabodetabek and sacral. It felt like a wonderful, warm farewell round with all these great people.

The passion of the Soul Brothers goes so far that they haveeven published a book about the history of the Mods in Jakarta . It's impressive to see how deeply rooted the knowledge and attention to detail is here. Indonesia definitely deserves a place on the global mod map!
