A clear view of the speedometer is essential to a successful Vespa restoration. The high-quality speedometer glass from CASA SCOOTER replaces scratched, cloudy, or damaged glass on the large, shell-shaped speedometers found on numerous classic Vespa models.
Manufactured in Italy, this replacement part is ideal when you want to preserve the original speedometer. Instead of replacing the entire instrument with a replica, only the damaged glass is replaced—the original speedometer mechanism, the dial, and thus an important piece of the vehicle’s history are preserved.
The speedometer’s distinctive shell shape is one of the most beautiful details on many Vespa models from the late 1950s and 1960s.
Especially when performing a faithful restoration, it’s worth preserving the existing speedometer. After all, these historic instruments often feature a dial design that matches the vehicle, the typical patina of original components, and a unique odometer reading.
Unfortunately, speedometer dials rarely remain intact over the decades. Scratches, cloudiness, and damage not only affect the appearance but also make it difficult to read the speed.
With the CASA SCOOTER replacement glass, you can restore the original speedometer without having to replace its entire mechanism.
Over the years, Piaggio used various shell-shaped speedometers. It is particularly important to distinguish between the large shell-shaped speedometer found on older large-frame models and the later, smaller version.
This speedometer glass is designed for the large shell-shaped speedometer, as used, for example, on the Vespa VBA, VBB, GL, Sprint, and GS 160.
The smaller speedometers on later models, such as the Vespa GTR, Sprint Veloce, or Rally, require a different glass, however.
Important: For older vehicles, German special editions, and speedometers that have already been replaced, you should always compare the shape and size of the existing glass. The vehicle model alone does not guarantee a proper fit.

For German models with a VDO speedometer, as well as for replaced or retrofitted instruments, the fit must be checked separately.
Most classic Vespa shell-style speedometers have a chrome-plated decorative ring whose edge is flanged onto the underside of the speedometer housing. This ring holds the speedometer glass and the corresponding gasket in place.
To replace the glass, we recommend the following procedure:
Our tip: The old chrome ring may be damaged when opening it. Therefore, we recommend checking the condition of the ring beforehand and, if necessary, ordering a matching new speedometer ring and a new gasket at the same time.
When crimping, avoid applying localized pressure to the new glass as much as possible. If you have no experience with this type of work, you can also have the installation done by a speedometer service or a repair shop with the appropriate tools.
Speedometer, trim ring, and gaskets are not included.
Yes. The replacement glass is intended for repairing the existing speedometer. If the instrument is intact, neither the dial nor the speedometer mechanism needs to be replaced.
The standard GTR and Sprint Veloce speedometers typically use the smaller “shell-type” speedometer design. A different glass is required for those models. The specific speedometer version actually installed is the determining factor.
No. This applies specifically to the GS 150 VS5, which has the corresponding large “muschel” speedometer. Earlier GS 150 models may have different speedometers.
With the right tools and some experience, the replacement is possible. The biggest challenge is carefully opening and re-flanging the speedometer ring without damaging the ring, the new glass, or the speedometer.
This is recommended during a restoration. An intact gasket helps keep moisture and dirt out of the speedometer.
