What happens to a Vespa that has crossed an entire continent in 22 months and has been ridden 72,000 km with a full load - over 100 kg of luggage alone - on all kinds of roads?
We are always thrilled when someone comes along on a great adventure and are very interested to see how they have prepared for the journey and which parts are best able to withstand the strain. Rarely do we have the opportunity to see the wear and tear of each part after a great trip, and Etze's adventure with Vesparicana is a very good example of this. He traveled with various bgmparts and after this adventure and years later Jan visited us in SC to show us these parts. Jan is the mechanic of Atze and his Vespa Elsi and he knows exactly which parts deserve a rest. For example, the bgm shock absorber that was fitted to Elsi. Due to the heavy luggage, the frame was warped in the area of the upper shock absorber mount. As a result, the shock absorber's reservoir was in permanent contact with the chassis. Due to the work of the shock absorber and enemy contact, the shock absorber was exposed up to the O-rings. And if we consider that the weight of the luggage was almost 120kg at the beginning and later about 100kg of which were 10l gasoline, 5l water, almost 30kg tools and spare parts and the rest was equipment like tent, stove, sleeping bag and clothes, all this plus Atze as driver. Then it's clear what would happen, and although the shock absorber still does its job, it's time for a replacement as a new adventure is approaching.
Vespa Elsi and rider Atze deserve a new shock absorber and many more parts for the next adventure. We know that the two of them are planning a new, beautiful adventure through Africa, we are already excited to see how it will turn out and will keep you up to date. Of course, we'll also keep you posted on the preparations for the Vespa.
