bgm PRO clutch steel plates 0.8 mm - for compact 4-disc racing clutches

The bgm PRO clutch steel plates in 0.8 mm have been developed forcompact 4-disc sports and racing clutches, where every tenth of a millimeter of clutch pack thickness is important. The lower overall height creates additional space for an additional friction disk or for high spring pressures without the clutch coming to rest in the basket or separating with difficulty.

The 0.8 mm steel discs are also manufactured to be precisely flat and run particularly smoothly, which means that the clutch remainseasy to control despite tight springs and high torque. The pads separate cleanly, pluck less and allow precise starting - ideal for sprint and race-oriented setups where a very high clamping force is required.

  • 0.8 mm race thickness for particularly compact 4-disc clutches
  • More scope for package thickness and spring stiffness
  • Very good concentricity, clean release behavior even with high preload
  • Burr-free edges, no reworking necessary
  • Enables high clamping forces with controllable operation at the same time
  • Suitable for many Vespa tuning and racing clutches with 4-disc package

We recommend bgm PRO Street gear oil (BGM2025, API GL-3 specification) as a lubricant for consistent release behavior and good wear protection.

The 0.8 mm steel discs are mainly used in high-performance racing and sprint engines, based on the aforementioned Vespa, Motovespa and Ape 50 smallframe engines. The decisive factor here is not so much the exact model designation, but the clutch basket used (classic smallframe clutch) and the desired 4-plate package with high spring force.

FAQ - 0.8 mm steel disks

Whenever the clutch is tuned very tightly (hard spring, high engine power) and sufficient separation travel and air in the basket are still required despite the 4-disc package. The lower thickness creates the necessary reserves here.
Basically yes, the disks themselves are suitable for everyday use without any problems. However, as they are usually used in very tightly tuned clutches, their suitability for everyday use depends heavily on the spring stiffness, pads and overall setup. For pure road setups, the 1.0 mm sports version is often the better compromise.
Yes, mixing different thicknesses is a proven way of fine-tuningthe package thickness. It is important that the packet as a whole does not stick in the basket and that the clutch separates completely. If in doubt, a step-by-step approach with calipers and trial fitting will help.
All standard smallframe clutch facings can be used (cork, sintered, racing facings). The decisive factor is that the combination of lining thickness, steel disk thickness and spring force matches the engine power and that the clutch separates completely.
