BGM PRO SPORT gearshift claw for Vespa Smallframe PV, ET3, PK S, PK XL, PK XL2, FL2 and HP

BGM PRO has given the successful BGM6550 gearshift claw a clear update. The successor BGM6555 has a redesigned detent profile. The result: the gears engage more precisely, shifting remains smooth and prevents any gear jumping. For maximum operational reliability, the BGM6555KT kit with reinforced shift spring and balls is also available.

Why the kit with reinforced shift spring?

Firm detent: noticeably defined detent points of the engaged gear
Prevents gear jumping: reliably prevents the gear from jumping out under load
Protects the gearbox: less shock loads on the gears, main shaft and shift detent
Tuned: the BGM shift claw is optimized for the reinforced spring, gears engage smoothly with light operating force

Material and hardening

Base material: 15CrMo5 (SCM415) chrome-molybdenum steel
Production: manufactured in Europe
Heat treatment: very complex hardening at Thyssen
Hardness: up to 58-60 HRC on the contact surfaces for high wear resistance

Precision: guidance without tilting

Compared to many standard parts, the flanks of the BGM PRO SPORT shift claw have very tight tolerances. This means that the claw is guided precisely in the main shaft and effectively reduces shifting or tilting. The new detent profile also ensures a defined gear position and clean synchronization between claw and gears.

Suitable for: PK gearbox type with round shift claw (50 mm)

The BGM PRO SPORT gearshift claw is designed for the PK gearbox type, which uses the round type with 50 mm overall height. Round type means: the pins that engage in the gearwheel have a radius at the transition.

Gear wheels: PK type can be recognized by markings 42xx (round gear claw, 50 mm)
Old type: Marking 37xx (square gear claw, 51 mm)
From the outside: PK type usually with rear wheel nut M16 and safety cage including split pin, old type often M14 castellated nut without safety cage

Assembly tips from practical experience

Recommendation: We recommend the BGM7930TL ball squeezer for easy installation of the balls.
Gear wheels and detent points must be clean and undamaged. Worn edges mean poor engagement.
Important: Gearbox and gears must be cleanly spaced out so that the shift claw works centrally and carries evenly.

Compatibility

Vespa PK50, PK80, PK125 (PK gearbox type 42xx)
Vespa V50 (V5A1T from no. 69444)
Vespa 50 Special (V5B3T from no. 94315)
Vespa 50 Elestart (V5B4T from no. 1514)
Vespa PV125 (VMA2T from no. 150203)
Vespa ET3 (VMB1T from no. 8161)

Note: In mixed assemblies, please always match the gearbox type (42xx vs 37xx) and the height of the shift claw.

Conclusion

The BGM PRO SPORT shift claw BGM6555 provides a precise detent profile, tight tolerances and high-quality hardening in a smallframe gearbox that should function reliably in everyday use and in sporty setups. If you want maximum security against gear jumping, use the BGM6555KT kit - tuned shift claw plus reinforced shift spring for full detent with light operating force.
