Vespa Meeting VC Regensburg or: If Wacken can do it, so can we!

What a weekend it was! On August 1st and 2nd, the Vespa Club Regensburg celebrated its 35th anniversary on the leisure island of Bad Abbach. Already two weeks before, it was clear that the weather would not fully cooperate. But the VCR hasn’t been discouraged by that in recent years. The motto “We’ll push through” spread across social media – not least thanks to the specially created AI avatars Caroline Cosa and Roman Rollig, which went truly viral.

So it came as no surprise that Friday morning’s preparations were repeatedly interrupted by showers. But the crew stayed focused, and by 1 p.m. – a record time – every last tent and pavilion had been set up and decorated.

Meanwhile, in the merchandise tent, this year’s incredible 300 raffle prizes were being sorted and displayed. Once again, our supporters outdid themselves with generous donations for a good cause.

Despite the unsettled weather, the first campers started arriving in the afternoon. For the helpers, it was a special feeling to see where the guests had come from this year: Upper Austria, Carinthia, Hanover, Cologne, Recklinghausen, Lippstadt, Düsseldorf, Pforzheim, Karlsruhe, the Allgäu – you could almost forget you were right in the middle of Bavaria.

By evening, the festival grounds were already lively. The weather had eased since early afternoon, allowing everyone to enjoy the planned WarmUp in dry conditions. In fact, this Friday night has increasingly become a fixed part of the gathering. The idea of offering a relaxed evening without time pressure now attracts several hundred visitors. One can only imagine what it would have been like with “real” summer weather.

When the last participants – rumor has it around 4:30 a.m. – finally made it to their tents, the helpers were already back at work Saturday morning. Traders and food stands had to be guided in and supplied with electricity and water. Here it became clear once again how well-trained the team has become.

But then came the setback: in the morning it didn’t just rain, it poured. The guided tours had to be canceled. A pity not only for the guides, who had carefully tested the routes, but especially for the long-distance visitors who were forced to stay in their tents for hours. How would the day continue?

The site slowly began to resemble a mini-Wacken, and worry lines appeared on the organizers’ faces. But the Vespa family proved resilient. From all sides came shouts like: “We’ve never had a trout snatch food from our hands! Don’t look so down!” And indeed, the weather couldn’t dampen the spirits.

Only the electrical team had a tougher time. After nearly a dozen power outages and more than two hours of troubleshooting in heavy rain, Michl finally discovered – at the very last cable six meters up a tree – a leaky connection. And just as it was fixed, the rain stopped. A perfect story for conspiracy theorists of all kinds!

As the day went on, more and more visitors arrived. We counted about 250 scooters and around 400 people on the grounds at peak times. When the Lengfeld fire brigade finally gave the green light for the parade, the organizers’ moods lifted again. The Vespa gods had shown mercy.

Nearly 120 vehicles set off. Considering the bleak forecast, that was an impressive turnout – and the grounds remained bustling even during the ride.

This year’s almost perfect catering certainly contributed a lot to the atmosphere. Alongside the VCR cake bar run by the Vespa ladies, newcomers like the Brudiss, Brigitte from Salvador Gallardo, and the Melina ice café joined in. As always, the Kamerl family with their legendary Grillape and the well-established VCR wine tavern were part of the line-up.

The dealer mile was equally important. With Rollerladen, Roller Schmid, ReUnited Parts, Polirein, Gloane Kunst, Wer liebt der schiebt, and the dyno team from Dezibel Labor, there was plenty on offer. Visitors were often seen carrying shopping bags, and the dyno attracted a crowd despite the muddy ground.

Whatever the weather, food and drink were spot on. Production and consumption went on from morning until late at night. Worries were almost forgotten. And when the fire brigade and Red Cross later announced that all 1,100 raffle tickets had been sold, everyone was fully reconciled with the weekend.

The VCR would like to thank all helpers, supporters, raffle donors, long-term partners, and above all our incredibly loyal guests, who amaze us every single year. At VC Regensburg, bad weather simply doesn’t exist.

One promise we had to make several times: No matter what, Caroline Cosa and Roman Rollig will return. At the latest on July 31st and August 1st, 2026, when VC Regensburg once again invites everyone to the summer festival on the leisure island of Bad Abbach!

Many thanks also to the Vespa Club Regensburg, the Herz family, and Stefan Dattelzweig for the wonderful photos.
