Engine housing PX200/P200 - OEM base with spindled alternator side

No more playing the lottery with old housings: If cracks, worn bearing seats or damaged rotary valve surfaces put the brakes on rebuilding, a brand-new engine housing is the clean solution. This version goes one step further: The half of the housing on the alternator side is already spindled out to Ø98.8 mm. This means that even oversized crankshafts such as the Quattrini 60 mm stroke shaft for the M244 cylinder can be installed in this housing area without reworking.

OEM look, modern reserves: The housing is created from new casting molds and comes with a clean, homogeneous surface. Critical areas are structurally reinforced without compromising the look.

Long stroke without milling stress: With many long-stroke crankshafts, the alternator side is the bottleneck because the cheeks have a larger diameter. This version is already spindled out to Ø98.8 mm. This means that crankshafts with a larger cheek circumference, for example the Quattrini 60 mm stroke shaft for the M244 cylinder, can also be fitted to the housing without additional reworking. Max Quattrini specifies a spindle dimension of Ø99.50 mm for its crankshaft. In practice, however, this larger dimension can cause problems at the sealing edge and centering. The Ø98.80 mm dimension used here has proven to be sufficient and offers approx. 0.15 mm of circumferential clearance. This makes long-stroke setups up to 62 mm stroke much simpler and easier to plan. This saves time and reduces the risk of machining errors, especially for engines that need to reliably cover touring and everyday use.

Rotary slide base: The rotary slide itself has the standard Piaggio dimension, which means that conventional PX200 crankshafts can also be used without any problems. The large, cleanly machined sealing surface provides a solid base for close-to-production engines, touring setups and powerful street engines.

The highlights in detail

Flawless base: brand-new casting from new molds - no more warped sealing surfaces or stripped threads.
Turned alternator side: already spindled out to Ø98.8 mm, prepared for crankshafts with larger cheek circumference, e.g. Quattrini M244 stroke 60 mm and setups up to 62 mm stroke.
Practical dimension instead of maximum dimension: Quattrini recommends Ø99.50 mm, in practice Ø98.80 mm has proven to be more practical due to the sealing edge and centering and offers approx. 0.15 mm circumferential clearance.
Standard Piaggio rotary valve dimension: compatible with conventional PX200 rotary valve crankshafts.
Constructively reinforced: more material reserves in critical areas, including the auxiliary shaft area.
Tuning-friendly: sufficient material thickness at the transfer ports and a large rotary valve surface as a starting point.
Plug and play: Silent rubbers and stud bolts are already fitted.

Delivery condition

Motor housing (OEM rotary vane), prepared ready for installation
Alternator-side housing half spindled out to Ø98.8 mm
Silent rubbers already pressed in
All stud bolts already set
Without bearings (plan bearings and shaft seals separately)

Maximum flexibility: Clean or fully removed

The housing is prepared, but can be installed cleanly and inconspicuously:

Without separate lubrication: Omit or decommission the oil pump and mix in the classic 1:50 ratio.
Without E Start: If you want to kick-start, close the opening in the fan duct with a suitable cover plate.
With standard PX200 shaft: The rotary valve has the standard Piaggio dimensions, so conventional PX200 crankshafts can still be used.
With large long-stroke shaft: The Lima half is prepared for Ø98.8 mm and creates space for oversized crank webs, such as the Quattrini M244 60 mm stroke.
Deliberate spindle dimension: Despite the Quattrini specification of Ø99.50 mm, Ø98.80 mm was selected as this dimension offers sufficient clearance in practice and protects the sealing edge and centering.
Downward compatible: Depending on the model and peripherals, also suitable as a replacement for P200E or late Rally 200 (Ducati).

Technical information on the Sport version

State of construction: similar to Lusso generation, depending on the design, the internal shaft seal ring of the drive shaft can be used.
Oil pump and E Start: Axle and holes for oil pump as well as flange and bolt for starter motor are available.
Shaft seal seats: with wedge-shaped groove, suitable for rubber and metal shaft seals.
PX needle bearing: provided on the alternator side.
Lima side Ø98.8 mm: alternator-side housing half already spindled out for long-stroke crankshafts with larger cheek circumference, e.g. Quattrini M244 stroke 60 mm, up to 62 mm stroke.
Clearance and centering: Max Quattrini suggests Ø99.50 mm for his crankshaft. In practice, this dimension of sealing edge and centering can be critical. Ø98.80 mm has proven to be sufficient and results in approx. 0.15 mm circumferential clearance.
Rotary valve in Piaggio standard dimensions: suitable for conventional PX200 rotary valve crankshafts without special dimensions on the rotary valve.
Cylinder base and housing: additional wall thicknesses in the cylinder mount and crankcase area for machining and stability.
Gasket set: suitable for assembly with standard gasket set.

Fits the following models (excerpt)

Vespa P200E / PX200 / PX200E (chassis prefix: VSX1T)
Vespa Rally 200 (chassis prefix: VSE1T)
Motovespa P200 DN (chassis prefix: 9DN)
Motovespa PX200 Iris (chassis prefix: 73C; with separate lubrication: 76C; E Start: 77C)
Motovespa TX200 (chassis prefix: 118C; E Start: 119C)

Note: When converting, always check the existing equipment status (ignition, covers, add-on parts). Peripherals can be adapted depending on the model and year of manufacture. Spanish Motovespa models may differ in details from Italian PX200 engines depending on the year of manufacture and market version.

Mounting instructions

As the housing is supplied without bearings, include bearings and a revision set (gaskets and shaft seals) for reassembly.
Even if the Lima half has already been spindled out, the crankshaft, clearance, rotary valve sealing surface and timing must be checked before final assembly.
If E Start is to be used, the starter motor, bracket and the appropriate covers for the E Start version are also required.
Before assembly: Clean and deburr the sealing surfaces and ensure a clean ground connection.

Conclusion

This PX200 / P200 engine case combines a brand-new OEM base with practical reserves for modern largeframe setups. The housing half on the alternator side is already spindled out to Ø98.8 mm and also accommodates large long-stroke crankshafts such as the Quattrini 60 mm stroke shaft for M244 setups without reworking in this area. The dimension offers approx. 0.15 mm circumferential clearance and at the same time protects the sealing edge and centering compared to a larger spindle dimension such as Ø99.50 mm. At the same time, the rotary slide remains in the standard Piaggio dimension so that classic PX200 crankshafts can still be used without any problems.

FAQ

The half of the housing on the alternator side is already machined to Ø98.8 mm in the area of the crank webs. This means that long-stroke crankshafts with a larger cheek circumference, for example the Quattrini 60 mm stroke shaft for the M244 cylinder, fit without this housing area having to be reworked first. Max Quattrini recommends Ø99.50 mm for its crankshaft, but in practice this dimension can be critical at the sealing edge and centering. Ø98.80 mm has proven to be sufficient and results in approx. 0.15 mm circumferential clearance.
Yes. The rotary slide itself has the standard Piaggio dimension. Conventional PX200 rotary valve crankshafts can therefore be used without any problems, as long as the rest of the engine design matches.
Yes. Omit the oil pump or shut it down and mix in the classic 1:50 ratio.
No. The opening in the fan duct is closed with a cover plate, then the engine works normally as a kickstarter version.
