12.05.2025

Please be sure to check the article and serial numbers of your installed components!

Dealers: Pass this information on to all your customers and check what you have installed!

The installation of faulty shock absorbers can result in serious falls and injuries. The article numbers involved and how you can check them are listed further down in the article. Please don't take this lightly! We will replace the shock absorbers very easily, send you a replacement part in advance for installation or refund the price if you don't want a replacement.

Update 2 - Recall bgm shock absorber 05.07.2024

  • As some customers are confused: only the shock absorbers where the part number is listed ( BGM7788NB and BGM7749NB do not have the B lasered on the shock absorber ) AND the serial number described is on the cover are affected.
  • Shock absorbers with the same part number but a different serial number and shock absorbers with the same serial number but a different part number are not affected.
  • Shock absorbers offered by some colleagues as lowered (mostly PK front) are probably not affected as the colleagues have dismantled and re-glued them.
  • Please clarify this with the dealer concerned.
  • Shock absorbers that you have disassembled, e.g. to powder-coat the spring, are also excluded from the recall as they are no longer in their original condition.
  • Customers who need a workshop to replace the shock absorbers: we are working flat out on a dealer network that we will publish next week and which will support us and you and can carry out the conversion without complications
  • . We expect the first replacement delivery in smaller quantities next week. The manufacturer is working flat out on the new production.

Update 1 - Recall bgm shock absorbers 01.07.2024

As a precautionary measure, we are recalling all shock absorbers for which we cannot rule out a production defect.

FAQ1: How can I tell whether the shock absorbers I have installed are affected?

You can tell by the item number and the serial number.

You can find both on the shock absorbers:

Artikelnummer und der Seriennummer

part number is actually BGM7788NB . The B stands for the black color variant.

seriennumer

The serial number here is SC-23K

The following types are affected by the recall:

TypePart numberSerial numbers
Vespa GTS frontBGM7788NBSC22F - SC23H - SC23K
Vespa GTS rearBGM7757BSC23K - SC23H
Vespa GTS rearBGM7749NBSC23H
Vespa PX frontBGM7781SC23A -
SC23C - SC23K
Vespa PX frontBGM7781BSC23D - SC23H - SC23J - SC23K - SC24A
Vespa PX rearBGM7782BSC23K - SC23H
Vespa PK frontBGM7743BSC23J
Vespa PK rearBGM7784BSC24A
Vespa PX rearBGM7742BSC23K - SC23H

All shock absorbers and serial numbers not included in the list may be excluded by the manufacturer.

The serial numbers of the shock absorbers are relatively easy to recognize even when installed. On the Vespa GTS, the helmet compartment must be removed for the rear shock absorber. Then you can see the serial number from above.

On the front shock absorber you can see it just below the edge of the mudguard.

Very easy to see after removing the helmet compartment:

Vespa GTS front. Also quite easy to recognize.

If necessary, use a cell phone and a flashlight:

PX and PK bgm shock absorber

On the Vespa PX and PK models, shine a flashlight on the piston rod/disc area of the front shock absorber.

Vespa PX front.

Also very easy to recognize at the right angle and with a lamp:

The number on the rear shock absorber is also very easy to recognize. You can read it relatively easily from below.

If you have help, it's even easier if you hold the Vespa at a slight angle.

If your shock absorbers are very dirty, it's best to use a cloth or cotton bud and possibly some brake cleaner or warm water with dish soap.

FAQ2: When is a replacement for my shock absorber available:

BGM7743B Vespa PK front: Here we have a replacement in stock and can replace it immediately.

BGM7742B Vespa PX rear black: Here we have the black/silver version in stock and can replace it immediately.

For all other affected versions, production is underway or replacement shock absorbers are already on their way to us.

We are currently having everything produced and delivered by express so that we can provide you with a replacement as quickly as possible.

FAQ3: Do I have to send in my shock absorber before I receive a replacement?

NO: If we can trace your purchase via your customer number, we will send you a replacement shock absorber on account before removal. You can then replace the shock absorber and then return the affected shock absorber. We will then cancel the invoice upon receipt of the defective shock absorber.

If the purchase cannot be traced, we need the shock absorber back before replacement to prevent misuse.

But even then, the exchange will be processed with absolute priority.

FAQ4: I urgently need a replacement and cannot wait for an exchange:

If we cannot deliver a replacement quickly enough and you no longer have your old shock absorber, we will provide you with YSS replacement shock absorbers free of charge. This will at least allow you to continue riding during the season.

If you would like this option, please send an e-mail to Recall@scooter-center.com

FAQ5: I have an affected shock absorber from the batch but have not been contacted

This is only possible if you did not buy the shock absorber directly from us, but from another dealer. This is not a problem and the entire process is handled by us.

In this case too, please send an e-mail to Recall@scooter-center.com

FAQ6: How long do I have to get in touch and replace the shock absorber?

There is no time limit on the exchange campaign. It is unlimited in time and can be carried out when it suits you.

FAQ7: I have written an e-mail but have not yet received a reply.

We are working on the requests in an enlarged team and are trying to organize everything.

Unfortunately, not all cases are the same and it takes time to answer and process them in the background.

FAQ8: I have one of the affected shock absorbers but my dealer said I didn't need to worry, he glued it himself.

We cannot judge the dealer's gluing work.

In principle, however, the adhesive bond is unquestionable as long as it is carried out correctly and with the right adhesive.

FAQ9: I have lowered the shock absorber myself.

If the shock absorber no longer corresponds to the delivery condition, e.g. by lowering it, the shock absorber is no longer affected by the recall.
